DAVID SURETTE Guitar and Mandolin
Soloist David Surette, one of New Englands finest guitarists, has generated an ever-growing following and is highly regarded for his work on the guitar (both flat pick and fingerstyle), mandolin, and Airdance. His earlier solo albums Black Roads and Trip to Kemper helped him achieve a reputation as a top player and arranger of Celtic fingerstyle guitar. His diverse repertoire also includes original compositions, blues and ragtime, traditional American roots music, and folk music from a variety of traditions. His most recent release, Northern Roots, is a collection of traditional New-England based music that has drawn strong praise. "We can't recommend it highly enough", wrote Mandolin Cafe. "one of the best discs of 2005." Well known in New England and beyond, David has performed throughout the country at festivals, concerts, coffeehouses, and contra dances. In 1988, he began working with singer Susie Burke, with whom he has released Sometimes in the Evening. In 1994, he was awarded the NEA Travel Grant, to study the traditional music of Brittany, France, and in 1999 he toured there.
